Super Bulldog Weekend & Cotton District Arts Festival

What a great weekend that was! This year, two of our favorite annual weekends collided into one HUGE weekend. Fortunately, through the hard work of our MVP Wesley, along with some other great employees, we were able to complete all of our renovations at Bin 612 just before the SBW/CDAF festivities began. We added an additional 40 seats to our front patio, developed our back patio area (including an awesome fire fountain) with 35 seats, added 2 more indoor dining rooms and expanded our kitchen! We also began serving our new Spring Menu, which Chef Ty did a great job on, and started serving lunch Tuesday – Saturday, including a $6.95 Cajun Blue Plate Express lunch menu!

We now have the capability to host a wide array of private parties, wedding rehearsal dinners and wedding receptions (we already have a few booked!) that were not possible before, which we are pretty excited about.

Our good friend and outstanding professional photographer Matt Dorroh has moved back to Starkville and opened up A Southern Photo on Main St. He’s going to have some photos of the renovations and all of the happenings this past weekend that we will post for y’all soon.

Breakfast Pop-Up!

We are excited about our next Pop-Up Restaurant, Breakfast for Dinner, taking place Wednesday, March 7. We are expecting a sell-out crowd for this one so don’t forget to call and make a reservation at 662-324-1014. We will be featuring many of our popular brunch items. Who doesn’t like breakfast for dinner?

SOUP-er Bowl Champs

The Starkville Young Professionals started this great event here several years ago benefitting United Way. A lot of hard work and planning goes into setting up the SOUP-er Bowl and Robyn Cain did an excellent job of putting the 2012 version together. There were some great chefs competing and Zorba’s was fortunate to edge out Harvey’s and Chef David Wilkerson (formerly of Restaurant Tyler) in the voting for best soup. The real winners were the City of Starkville and United Way though. It was fun to hang out with the staff of other restaurants here in Starkville and all of you locals. Thanks for coming out and supporting such a great cause!

Speaking of great causes, this is a piece Sports Illustrated’s Peter King did prior to yesterdays Super Bowl on former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason , who has been diagnosed with ALS. It’s a moving story that inspired me to make a donation at www.teamgleason.org. http://youtu.be/LSS10h0BKig Instead of writing anymore on Steve, I’ll just let you watch the video.

Super Bowl Sunday

As one good friend put it after the 49ers beat my beloved Saints 3 weeks ago, “Alex Smith broke my heart like no girl ever has.” The whole of the Who Dat Nation felt the pain after Vernon Davis made the winning catch and it has lingered for a while, especially with the nonstop Super Bowl coverage the past couple of weeks. One of the greatest days/nights of my life was watching the Saints beat the Colts in Miami 31-17 to win Super Bowl XLIV. Through the fortune of having some great friends, we were able to watch the game from the front row and attend the Saints victory party after the game. Singing the Who Dat chant along with the Saints players, coaches, Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Better Than Ezra, Harry Connick Jr., etc. is something I’ll never forget. Around 3 a.m., we even got to hold the newly minted Lombardi Trophy courtesy of a slightly inebriated Coach Sean Payton! Ah, but I digress… I’ve still been too sick to watch football since the loss but I might try to force myself this Super Bowl Sunday as the Giants and Patriots do battle. Maybe the commercials will be good, right? Or maybe I’ll just throw in the dvd of Super Bowl XLIV on one of the plasmas. I’ll be the one cheering at all the wrong times. Regardless, Bin 612 and Zorba’s will be open with some great specials and prize giveaways for you locals. The indoor renovations at Bin were completed yesterday and we think you will like what you see. We’ve even added 3 new plasmas in time for the big game so give us a try and see what you think. As always, we’ll have the game on the big projector as well as the plasmas at Zorba’s. Hope to see y’all there! I might even buy a round if someone randomly starts a Who Dat chant…

Valentines Day

We had a great time at the State Fair Pop Up last night. All of you locals have done an awesome job supporting the Pop Up Restaurants! Thank you! We will have another one soon. Give us your suggestions! Our focus at Restaurant Tyler is now on Valentines Day. Chef Ty has come up with an amazing 3, 4, 5 or 6 course menu! We are already starting to fill up with reservations. I’ll post the menu for y’all soon!

State Fair Food Pop Up Restaurant Tomorrow Night!

Our 2nd Pop Up Restaurant featuring State Fair food favorites will be tomorrow night at Restaurant Tyler and Zorba’s. We were overwhelmed with the sellout crowd for our 1st Pop Up Restaurant that featured Mexican a few weeks ago. We’ll have house made Abita beer battered pronto pups, crawfish etoufee, chicken on a stick, elephant ears, boudin balls and more. Reservations are not required but are recommended. Hope to see y’all tomorrow night!
